Urgent Action Request from Nevada Clinicians for Climate Action

The US Senate just passed the big tax and spending bill under their reconciliation process. This bill is terrible for health, the climate and Nevada’s clean energy economy. The bill now goes back to the House for a final vote and we still have time to stop its passage. Please call or email your House representatives today and ask them to oppose the tax and budget reconciliation bill.

Find your House Representative here.

Here’s why the bill is harmful–

Bad for healthcare

About 80,000 Nevadans are likely to lose their health insurance as a result of this bill. Hospitals will see decreased revenue from Medicaid.

Bad for energy costs and renewable energy deployment

The bill will raise household energy costs by 10%, an average of $400 per year. It will reduce new grid capacity by 50%, increasing the risks of blackouts and grid failures. By curtailing the renewable energy economy, the bill will undercut 139 state clean energy projects underway, costing an estimated 6200 Nevada jobs and reducing Nevada’s GDP by an estimated $95 million in 2030.

Bad for climate change and air pollution

The bill increases air pollution, particularly from power plants and vehicles. Emissions would increase nearly 260 Mt CO2e in 2035 – the equivalent of adding 56 million cars to the road. Higher local air pollution would harm public health, leading to nearly 350 additional premature deaths annually by 2030 and nearly 670 by 2035.
