Q: What is net metering?
A: Net metering allows homeowners with rooftop solar to get credit for excess electricity sent back to the grid.

Under Nevada Law, new solar customers are being phased into 15 minute net metering increments where every 15 minutes your meter looks at how much powere you consumed from the grid and how much you exported. If you generated more then what you used, its exported (sold) at the “export” rate. If you consume more then you generated you pay the retail rate for that defecit.

Q: How does net metering benefit Nevada families?
A: It lowers monthly energy bills and helps families save money while contributing to a cleaner grid.

Q: Is net metering protected by law in Nevada?
A: Yes. AB405 (2017) codified net metering into nevada law. However the Public Utilities Commission is authorized to make changes to the export/ retail rates consumers have to abide by. These changes have to be requested by the utility.

Q: Why is net metering important for Nevada’s future?
A: It ensures fair value for solar customers, encourages renewable adoption, and reduces dependence on out-of-state energy.
